Emmerdale - Lawrence White will be rejected by his partner Bernice Blackstock after he confesses to the shooting of Robert Sugden.

Lawrence's daughter Chrissie will quickly become the prime suspect in the case thanks to a false statement that Eric Pollard has given to implicate her. In response, Lawrence jumps straight to her defence by claiming that the shooter was actually him.

Lawrence's apparent confession lands him in a prison cell and doesn't go down too well with Bernice, who hands his engagement ring back just days after agreeing to marry him.

Teasing the drama ahead, John Bowe, who plays Lawrence, said: "Lawrence is devastated when Bernice hands the ring back. She's the one good thing to come into his life through his resettlement in the village and all of the angst and horror that's happened to the family throughout the year. Lawrence has met someone who reminds him of his wife and gives him the same feelings. Bernice is a great companion and great fun to be with. She makes him laugh and makes him feel good inside. Now that's being ruined."

Expressing hope that the pair can work it out, Bowe continued: "Samantha is the best person to work with. If there's a possibility where you're going to be thrust into working closely with someone, possibly for some years ahead,  I couldn't have wished for it to be anybody other than Samantha. I have total respect for her ability as an actress and her skill in comedy. What's great about this coupling is that Sam's going to get the opportunity to play tragedy, and I'm going to get the opportunity to play more comedy. There's some stuff that's in the can already that I think the viewers are going to love."

While it seems that Lawrence is only confessing to the shooting to save Chrissie, he remains on the suspect list and could still be the real culprit.
Asked whether he thinks Lawrence is really capable of attempted murder, Bowe replied: "Yes I do - absolutely. Especially after what he went through in his early life, way back in the 60s, which is shortly to be revealed on screen. People will find out soon that he has a very thin skin and it won't take much to pierce it. He could lose it completely.

"He also definitely thinks that Robert had it coming. I love Ryan Hawley dearly - we joined the show roughly at the same time. I think he's a damned fine actor too.  But I do worry about how he can ever possibly be redeemed for some of the horrors that he has performed, both on my family and the village! He deserves the shooting just for the stuff that he's done to Lawrence! Let's hope the writers can find a redeeming quality, otherwise Ryan's in a cul-de-sac at the moment!"
