EastEnders - There will be huge repercussions for the Carter family after Shirley finally sees Dean's true colours

Shirley will realise just how dangerous Dean really is when she walks in on him attacking his girlfriend Roxy Mitchell.

Dean's controlling behaviour will step up a gear when his hopes for a family gathering don't pan out the way he had planned.

Dean will be furious when he discovers that Buster, Shirley and Jade have already eaten with the Carters, causing him to snap at his mum.

After clashing with Shirley, the pressure starts to become too much for Dean and he snaps once again, accidentally injuring Roxy in the process.

With Dean's behaviour spiralling out of control, Shirley will make a horrifying discovery when she later turns up to find him attacking Roxy. Although Shirley manages to come to Roxy's aid, Dean's actions will naturally lead her to question what really happened with Linda last year.

As the day of Mick and Linda's wedding arrives the Carters are reunited as Dean is finally ousted from the family.

However, fuelled by rage, Dean returns to seek revenge and things rapidly take a turn, plunging Shirley, Mick and Dean into deadly underwater danger as the show airs a shock lake stunt. Who will survive?

Danny Dyer, who plays Mick, explained: "As long as Dean's knocking around, he's always gonna throw a spanner in the works. Dean's really determined to stop the wedding. It's not just about stopping the wedding, though - there's more to it than that."

Speaking about filming the dramatic New Year's Day scenes, Dyer continued: "It was very hard work, especially the underwater stuff. Physically, mentally, but it's great to get out of the Square. It's a beautiful thing working in The Vic, but to go on location is always great. It breaks it up a little bit. And to do stuff like the lake stunt when we're using crane shots and special underwater cameras was an honour. It's always nice to take this show to that level because it deserves it. It's shot beautifully. But it was difficult. It was hard jumping into a lake in November."

Praising Matt Di Angelo, who plays Dean, Dyer added: "I love Matt. I needed a nemesis in the show and it definitely brought out Mick's character more but it's a shame it had to be my brother. I've got a beautiful line in the script where I say 'things could have been so different'."
