Joe has been developing feelings for Mercedes since discovering that she is
expecting his baby, but it seems that she has other ideas about where
her future lies.
Mercedes agrees to flee from the village with Joe's brother Freddie, who wants a fresh start of his own after his marriage to Lindsey has hit the rocks
The unlikely pair agree to flee to Valencia together, but Freddie is
concerned when he realises that Mercedes hasn't
bothered to tell Joe what she's planning.
When Joe overhears their conversation, they're forced to come clean but they assure him that they're only going as friends.
Joe is stung to think that he'll be separated from his baby, and
Mercedes breaks his heart further when she makes it clear that a
relationship between them never would have worked.
The feisty
character does later start to question her decision and feels torn over
what to do, even when she's saying her final goodbyes to Joe.
Ultimately, though, Mercedes resolves that there's only one answer...
