After a DNA test reveals that Dean is Jade's biological father, he realises that his daughter would be better off without him in her life.
However,
Shirley is determined to gain custody of her grandchild
despite some failed attempts, and a supportive Buster arranges for them
to meet Jade's foster father, Jonathan.
When
they meet with Jonathan, Shirley and Buster reveal that they want to
get custody of Jade together and arrange to meet her later in the week.

Once she arrives back home, Shirley feels overwhelmed with guilt for
going behind Dean's back, but is persuaded by Buster not to tell him the
truth.
However, as her guilt rises, Shirley decides to come
clean to Dean about Jade's visit, but a furious Dean tries to persuade
them to cancel it.
Later, Shirley and Dean have a heart-to-heart and she tries to persuade him to step up and be a father figure to Jade.
Shirley's
words appear to have had the desired effect when Dean arrives home and
tells Shirley and a worried Buster that he has changed his mind and he
now wants to meet his daughter.
A nervous Dean later meets his daughter for the first time, but will all go to plan?
